If you are looking for a French modest look for spring or summer, this outfit is one of the easiest formulas I have worn in a while. A striped Zara co-ord set, a red modal hijab with a matching red bonnet, black loafers, and my favourite red Kappahl handbag turned into one of those outfits that looks more styled than it actually is.

That is usually the best kind.
Spring and summer modestwear always gets a little trickier once the layers disappear. In colder months, a coat or blazer can do half the work. In warmer weather, the outfit has to stand on its own. That is exactly why this one felt so satisfying.
The striped co-ord set already has that slightly French, slightly nautical mood on its own. Stripes always do that. They instantly make a look feel more polished, even when the pieces themselves are simple. But without the red scarf, this outfit would have been a little too safe for me.
The red hijab is what made it.

It stopped the outfit from drifting into “nice.” It gave it a little more edge. A little more city. A little more personality than a striped set usually has on its own.
Why this outfit works

The balance is what makes this outfit feel good.
The stripes keep it classic.
The red keeps it sharp.
The loafers keep it grounded.
That is why I like black loafers so much with softer or more feminine modest looks. They add a bit of backbone immediately. They stop the outfit from becoming too sweet, which matters even more when you are working with stripes and a bold scarf colour.

The same goes for the red handbag. I reused my favourite Kappahl bag here because once you find a bag that actually works with your wardrobe, you should absolutely keep repeating it. In this case, it tied the scarf into the rest of the outfit without making the styling feel overdone.
And because the whole outfit is a co-ord set, it also solves one of the most annoying parts of warm-weather modestwear. You get coverage, shape, and visual interest without needing extra layers just to make the outfit feel finished.
If you want the formula, it is very simple:
- striped co-ord set
- red modal hijab
- matching bonnet
- black loafers
- one structured red handbag
This is exactly the kind of French modest look I would repeat for a city day, lunch, travel, or just any spring or summer day when I want to feel a little more put together without trying too hard. Sometimes that really is enough.
